Who We Are

Picture
Community Impact LAB strives to be a force for action and to expand opportunities that everyone, especially women and children, have to be impactful. We believe that by engaging families, empowering parents, and working together to tackle challenges in real ways, we can create the sea change necessary for every person to live, give, and grow to their fullest potentials. Our Social Good, Learning, and Family LABs remove barriers to progress by giving opportunities for parents and their children to do social good, build supportive circles, and share knowledge and skills. We leverage grassroots passion and energy with innovative projects and bridge the gap between needs and available resources.

Here’s how: We remove many of the obstacles that prevent families from being able to engage fully. We provide tools and resources, build agency, and enable parents to participate and volunteer with their children. The result? Grassroots projects that improve lives and create positive changes for individuals, families, and communities everywhere. Together we can be the rising tide that lifts all boats. Please join us!

JUST LAUNCHED:
Allied Families Project for Refugees, Asylum Seekers, and Immigrants

Picture
Purpose: To mobilize families to advocate for, provide support, and help uplift families and children impacted by ICE Raids, detention centers, and targeted attacks on migrant communities.
Goals:

  1. CIL Families will take action to help families and children impacted.
  2. CIL Families will become better educated and aware of immigration policies to advocate for more humane actions, share information within their communities, and be better equipped to demand changes in immigration law.
  3. Impacted families and children will receive emotional support through a network of American families from all over the United States.
  4. Impacted families and children will receive information regarding resources and potentially needed material goods such as school supplies, basic hygiene goods, etc
  5. CIL will create a broad network of families that can respond to needs that may arise from ICE raids and other targeted attacks.
  6. CIL will create a broad network of nonprofit, community, and individuals working to aid families and children impacted.
How: Through partnerships with local organizations, churches, and aid agencies, CIL families will be anonymously “matched” with families and children to provide one-way emotional support, resource-sharing, and material help through care-packages of needed goods. The connected families will write letters of support from their family to the matched child or family that CIL will pass along through partner organizations. Families signed up for the project will be given a simple guide to help them create the letters with their children, engage in conversations centered on empathy, human rights, and activism. They will also be encouraged to write letters to their representatives to demand for the end of family separation and the more humane treatment of individuals in custody. Each family will have access to educational resources to help them better understand the current immigration climate and policy of family separation. After the establishment of a capable and sustainable community partner, CIL will collect care packages to send to individuals impacted. Two drop locations will be established at CIL at Bayfair and Zocalo Coffeehouse. Letters will be collected beginning September, 2019.

Our Second annual Community Baby Shower is a month away! You and your organization are invited to bring any new or expecting moms you work with to spend an afternoon in celebration. The free event will be held on March 23rd from 2-4pm at The Bayfair Center in San Leandro. All guests must be registered to attend the event. Please Register guests here by March 1.
Last year was our first baby shower and it was an amazing day with over 100 parents and children attending and over $50,000 of gifts distributed. Families stayed for hours, formed connections with each other and gained information about community resources for new parents. We received great feedback from the moms we were celebrating, their children and the organizations that attended. With the addition of our new headquarters at the Bayfair Center, we will be able to make this year’s event an even bigger success!
Any expecting parents or women who have a baby less than 3 months old are invited. Each attendee is welcome to bring their children and one guest. All moms will be given a Lift Me Up gift bag full of needed baby items and access to our free store with clothing, maternity items, and baby gear. The Shower will have food, pampering stations, activities and information tables with resources for new moms and kids.
We also hope that any organizations with clients in attendance can send a representative to host an informational table or provide promotional materials to share with other moms. You are also welcome to come just to enjoy the day with your clients. We hope mothers will connect with each other and with needed resources for baby care, mental and physical health, and local resources. We will have members who speak Spanish, Farsi, and Chinese in attendance to help with language barriers. Please let us know if your client will need a translator.
To ensure that we have gifts for each mom, all guests must be registered by their organization or social service worker. Please Register guests here by March 1. You can also respond with an estimated number of guests your organization will be sending and can reserve a spot for them until they are registered. If you would like to register your organization for an information booth or would like more information please do so here.

Do you know a badass mama-to-be who deserves to be celebrated? Is she a single mama who could use support? A woman who inspires you with her compassion and service for others? Or a teacher, friend, or another woman who would benefit from being lifted by her community? Please nominate her here! We'd love to shower her and her new baby.
Community Impact LAB, an East Bay nonprofit hosts an annual Community Baby Shower for vulnerable moms to shower them with support, a Lift-me-Up baby box filled with goodies, and a few hours to feel celebrated. This year we're also inviting the community to nominate moms. (Our attendees are referred to us from our nonprofit + social service partners.) Mamas-to-be and moms with babies 4 months or younger are eligible.
Also, if you work at an agency serving moms, email us at info@communityimpactlab.org to reserve a spot for your clients. And if you or your business/org wants to donate to the shower, the lift me up box program, or volunteer at the Shower, please let me know!
