SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (April 7, 2021) – On Sunday, May 16, Community Impact LAB (CIL), a non-profit organization that works to empower women and families to do good, learn, and build strong communities, is hosting a “Celebrate AAPI & StoptheHate Rally.” The celebration and rally takes place during Asian Pacific American Heritage month and will highlight the history, heritage, and contributions of the Asian Pacific American communities and mobilize families to be active allies in combating anti-Asian racism. The “Celebrate AAPI & StoptheHate Rally” will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Main Library in Downtown San Leandro.
“In light of the rise in anti-Asian/American racism and violence, our organization wanted to take meaningful action to uplift the AAPI community. The intention of the event is three-fold: celebrate the rich history, diversity of the Asian/American community, mobilize families in solidarity and support of the AAPI community and address the rise in harassment and violence, and provide resources for the community to take action.” said CIL’s Executive Director, Xouhoa Bowen. “The Celebrate AAPI & StoptheHate Rally is just the start. We can be the difference, and together we can create a safer world for every person.”
The outdoor celebration and rally will include cultural performances, speakers, and exhibits to celebrate the wealth of diversity and experiences of the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. Musicians and performers representing Chinese, Lao, Korean, Hawaiian, Indian heritages and more will take the stage. Local leaders and activists including California Attorney General Rob Bonta will also speak. Other activities include art displays from the community, a children's story walk, educational exhibits, and resource tables.
